If you are purchasing a home over $766,550 then you may need more than the 3% as your down payment to qualify for most jumbo mortgage programs. Keep in mind that your home loan may not need to be a jumbo mortgage if you are in a higher cost area such as Hawaii, Alaska, California or Guam where the conforming mortgage limit is $970,800 for a single family home.
